Scuba in Aruba

My family and I just got back from a destination wedding and vacation in Aruba, and although we didn’t REALLY get to “Scuba in Aruba” we did make memories that will last a lifetime.

First and foremost, a big congrats and shout out to the happy couple, Lauren & Tom. Thank you for choosing Aruba as your destination. We had a very hard time adjusting to the white sand beaches, sunny days, sunsets, swim-up pool bar, and all-you-can-eat buffets, but we managed.

Rough times, ehh?

We obviously had a great trip (how could you not?!)… even though it got off to a slightly rocky start.

Where to begin?

In a nutshell, the ride to the Charlotte airport was smooth, and when we got to the airport our plane status was “on time.” Life was good. We met Mark, who arrived from Buffalo, at his connecting gate and all headed to gate E11 — Aruba bound!

Hi Mark.

Lance’s new favorite activity: Moving walkways at the airport.

Things were still going well. Lance was ready to “Scuba in Aruba” (or so his t-shirt says) as we waited to board.

Then we all got on the plane. Lance was psyched to embark on his first plane ride!

Still smiling.

After that, things pretty much went downhill.

We taxied out on the runway, then we were soon called back due to an engine panel that was apparently “flapping” (their lingo, not mine). It only got worse from there… we waited… we de-planed… we waited… the flight eventually got CANCELED. Whomp, whomp, whomp.

Instead of belaboring the point and writing about the long, drawn-out saga the ensued after that, let’s just move onto the fun part because, in the end, we all eventually made it to Aruba.

The next day (Aruba take II), Lance did great on the plane. He even took my seat. See for yourself.

We made it to our hotel exactly one hour before the wedding started…. cutting it WAY too close for comfort, but given the huge ordeal we went through we were just happy to be there.

The wedding was gorgeous…

The bride and groom were stunning, and it couldn’t have been a more fun wedding!

The guests were handsome ๐Ÿ™‚

Before heading to the reception, Grandpa showed Lance the ocean.

Then there was dancing…

And a whole lot more fun… not pictured because, well, I was too busy having fun.

The next five days were amazing. We hung out with family and new friends by the ocean. We hit up the buffets, frequented the pool bar, and relaxed to the max.

Here are a few more photos that encapsulate our trip…

Sunsets every night.

Lance getting sand in his pants.

Pool bar… cocktail for Marky; bottle for Lance.

Hangin’ in his raft.

Kisses from the bride!

Last night in paradise…

Now that we are back home and reality is setting in, it’ll be hard to top this trip. You cannot duplicate this type of experience… you can only hope for the next occasion to get together… whenever and wherever it may be…

And although I keep finding cocktail straws in the laundry and Lance might still has remnants of sand in various (and unmentionable) places, it’ll just serve as a reminder over the next few days of just what a great time we had in Aruba.

Next time maybe we’ll scuba ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. I love this blog… it looks as though Uncle Mark got some real QT with Lance. That is always a great thing. Glad you all had a great time… definitely think I will be adding Aruba on to my list of destinations. ๐Ÿ™‚
